Fucking Jack Kerouac, man. This weekend I read Minor Characters by Joyce Johnson, as research for my current novel. Folks, it was a damn good read. If you’re in any way interested in the Beats, and could do with a correction to the intensely male legacy that’s been built up around the movement, do check it out.
I could never finish On The Road = no Bob and Bong - but really liked Minor Characters when I read it - over 20 years ago! Re: 'UNREQUITED LOVE’S A BORE.', the first versions of Glad To Be Unhappy I heard were by the Mamas and The Papas and Billie Holliday! 2 great and very different version of a cracking song - through I did wonder what 'zabor' was for far too long!
So good, Cari. Excellent. Completely relate.
I've been thinking about the Theory of Male Genius a lot in the wake of Sinead O'Connor's death this week.

This was terrific.
